Mac Tip : Play XVID videos on your Mac

I recently had an issue playing XVID videos on my Mac. I downloaded the XVID codec as well as installed the AC3 audio codec separately, but still I could only get the picture and no sound. I found I could play the clips fine through VLC Media player, but not Quicktime.
